R.I.P. Cover Letters? They are not dead (yet)

We noticed there are a lot of people chiming in about cover letters and their worth. Find out what we think about this opinion.
Lots of people have commented on the cover letter and the significance of the document with respect to the job application process. We outlined some arguments that have popped up recently.
ATS will do the trick!
The Applicant Tracking System (ATS) is a software designed to scan an applicant’s information (ie. resume) and find keywords that were entered by the recruitment person. If the keywords entered are found on the resume, then the candidate will be flagged for a review. The argument is that ATS will take the place of a live person, and thus the cover letter is not scanned and thus is not relevant.
People don’t read them
Some people do not read, and I would guess not all the information is read. People are busy!
Our Thoughts
Lots of information regarding the cover letter lately. a) not all companies use ATS and rely on it solely as the method to shortlist, and b) some people still require to see that the letter is completed, although some may just scan the contents. If there are two equal-strength candidates, one has a letter and the other does not, this could be a way to eliminate a candidate.
Concluding Thoughts
Play it safe and create a good targeted cover letter!
