Applying to lots of jobs with no success?

We receive a lot of emails, phone calls and web form requests regarding clients who have applied to over 50 jobs and have not received a response. What’s going on here? Find out how you can increase your success rate.
There are many levels to the job search and the application process, and we included a few pinch points that are common to most clients who are not getting call-backs.
Type of job applied to and experience requirements
Do you meet the basic requirements for the job? Does the job require 5-10 years and you have 2 years? Probably best to focus on those jobs in the 2-5 range or that better match up with what you have to offer.
Cover letter and resume not aligned with the job posting?
When applying to a job, are you modifying the cover letter and resume for each position you apply to? We recommend modifying each document to fit to the role you apply to. It will require some work, but in the end the payback exceeds the effort put in on the front end.
Failure to include special details in the application process
Have you noticed the fine print towards the bottom of a job posting? ie. “please include reference number 102-199B in the subject line of email when applying”. This is very important and your application will be overlooked if not included.
Supply and demand
Sometimes simple economics will play a role in response rate. If you are one of 300 applicants, having a solid cover letter and resume will be crucial to make it past the first and subsequent screens.
Other considerations
Are you applying to jobs in Toronto and live in Windsor? Thinking of relocating to another province, but using your local address? Is your name affecting your success rate?
There are many variables that can affect success rate, and if you have been applying to many jobs with little or no success, please contact us, and we can help to recommend some solutions.
