“What do you know about our company?”, interview question.

A common question that still comes up through the interview process is related to your knowledge of the company. We are going to cover some strategies in relation to this question below, and provide some interview help.
So you have passed the preliminary tests to get to the interview (the resume has surpassed the other candidates’, and your phone interview was successful), and encountered this question. How do you respond?
Why do some companies ask this question?
Companies may ask this question in order to find out if you are interested in what they do. I think it’s important to ask this question because we all know unengaged people who do as little work as possible because they are bored, or do not like what they do.
It’s important to find out who really enjoys working in a particular job, as those employees will be more productive, and will go the extra distance (usually they will take initiative as opposed to waiting for instructions).
Preparation
In preparation of this questions, we would suggest visiting the company website, and reviewing what they do, how they do it, and who are their customers. You can also Google some details, or find out something interesting that aligns with your interests.
Pick a few points, type them up on a ‘cheat sheet’, and review those details prior to your interview.
Delivering an answer
When delivering the answer, you may want to talk about two or three items, and discuss why they are interesting to you, and how you can support those items.
