What if your job title does not match your job duties?

We say change it! Seriously, if your job title does not match the quality of work you complete, this could pose a barrier to getting a job that you deserve. Read on.
From our experience working in human resources and other lead management roles, we notice that company job descriptions seldom do justice to what you actually do on the job. So in the case where you are doing more than what your title suggests, we recommend altering your resume to suit that particular role.
For example, we had a client who was working in a Payroll capacity and under the title Administrator, which suggested a very different type of work then what was actually being performed. Upon reviewing the resume and asking questions throughout the job-writing process, we discovered there were a lot of items not found on the resume to support the larger array of accountability.
We massaged the job title to properly suit the role and now the client is getting interviews for the position that they wanted, rather than the position that the old resume was geared towards.
During the interview process and further into the recruitment stage, we recommended that the client tell the prospective employer about the slight change to the job title and the reasoning.
