Thank you emails for after the interview

You prepared for and endured the gruelling interview. Now what? Relax and hope for the best? What about the follow up?

We recommend sending an email thanking the interviewers or interviewer the day of the interview. Make sure to get a card or contact information before you leave the interview and when you get home or back to the office, craft your email to include the following points:

  • Opening sentence – thank the person for their time and provide when exactly you had the interview (such as the time and date. There could have been a few interviews that day and they may not remember who you are).
  • Content – discuss something that you learned in the interview and reiterate just a couple pieces of information that highlights your candidacy for the role. Don’t overdue it.
  • Closer – conclude with another thank you and demonstrate your interest in the role, without being too needy or desperate.

The thank you email should be a quick, and simple message.
