Utilizing Workopolis and Monster

Most job seekers have heard of Workopolis and Monster, but are they using these tools to their maximum potential? Used correctly, you can cut down on the amount of time. Used incorrectly and you’ll spin your wheels and waste valuable time.
How to use these tools
- Pick a time of day to search for positions. For example, everyday pick a time between 9am and 10am to look for jobs.
- Collect as many as you can and record these in a spreadsheet or some kind of tracking document.
- When you have accumulated a set number, pick a second time during the day to apply to all of the positions. You will find that you are much more productive when you had a chance to get away from the computer, run errands (or if you are at work, get some work done!)
- When you have your resume and cover letter looking the way the should, you should create your online profiles. If you are working and are worried about your employer seeing your profile (HR people have access to searching), you may not wish to check your profile as Public.
- Having a Public and searchable profile will allow recruiters and other people searching for good candidates search for you. This will cut down on your search time.
Used correctly, you will cut down on the job search time, as when you are not actively searching, someone else is trying to find you and thus less time you spend.
Share a success story with Workopolis or Monster? Or a pitfall?

I’ve had the most success with Workopolis. I tried out the profile a couple of months ago and I’ve received calls regarding my online resume.
Monster is good for technical jobs. I am in IT and find that they are good for those types of job.
Looking for a job is pretty difficult nowadays. Job sites like Workopolis and Monster makes it easier for us to find one. However, when you depend only on these sites, it limit our chances of getting hired. Employers look for applicants on some other freelance sites as well. They think that they might be able to find a better and more affordable employee.
I suggest that you post your resumes to some other sites like staff.com, vworker, etc.
