Reveal a pre-existing medical condition in a job interview?

We would say ‘no’. But what happens if you say otherwise. Find out what we think.
If you have a condition, such as an injury, mental illness or other, revealing this information in a job interview will probably sink your chances of getting the job.
Although in some cases, this would contravene our Human Rights Code, such as with the case of a mental illness, employers can still discount your candidacy by generalizing your interview feedback as “candidate does not match what we are looking for” and thus pass on your application.
We recommend that one should not volunteer such information until after you have been offered and signed your employment contract. If you seek special accommodation post signing, then this is the time to speak with your manager and discuss what you need.
What should you do if you suspect the employer has discriminated and discounted your candidacy due to an item under employment law of human rights provisions? We would recommend seeking legal or contact the provincial or federal branch that would deal with such issue, such as the Ontario Human Rights Commission.
