This week’s resume writing and career counselling case study is from a client residing in Kitchener, Ontario. We will discuss the nature of the project and the outcome.

Profile: IT Analyst working for a large IT firm in Waterloo, ON. (short commute)
Need: Looking for a resume and cover letter in order to apply to another role in a different company.
Solution: After reviewing the resume, we built a project that encompassed a re-write, both resume and cover letter. The client suggested he needed interview preparation assistance.

Client A was working for a large IT company for the past 10 years. He outgrew the position and felt there was little or no room to move up the career ladder. After calling our company, we set up a short consultation to find out more about his experience, and some of the positions he was applying to (and not seeing any progress with respect to securing interviews).

We determined the resume needed some work and redesigned and rewrote the content. We also suggested to see some positions that he was applying to and offered some advice on whether the positions matched his experience. This cut down on the amount of time he was using to apply to roles that were junior or senior to his experience level.

After a week of applying he received an interview and he asked us to help with interview preparation.

In most cases there are a few variables that can hinder one’s chances of securing an interview. The resume, cover letter and the types of positions rank the highest and with location and job sector close behind.
